Grants will support workforce development programs and student scholarships

The Wells Fargo Foundation recently awarded Trident Technical College Foundation $40,000 to support job training in high demand fields and $10,000 for student scholarships.

The $40,000 donation will assist students with tuition, supplies and textbooks for programs such as Certified Production Technician, Certified Nurse Aide, and Phlebotomy. “This will allow students who would not be able to afford training to have the opportunity to gain meaningful career skills that will lead to employment,” said Bob Walker, Trident Tech’s vice president for Continuing Education and Economic Development. “The focus of the grant will be on prospective students at our rural sites who face additional hurdles such as transportation. We know this kind of short-term training can lead to a job that will change the future of a family.”

The $10,000 donation will provide annual student scholarships of $1,000. “These $1,000 scholarships go a long way toward assisting with a student’s college education,” said Keith Rumrill, director of Development.

“We are pleased to support Trident Technical College to help create a competitive workforce and sustainable economy for generations to come,” said Wells Fargo Lowcountry Business Banking Manager and Charleston Market President Len Hutchison. “The success of students is a critical element in keeping our communities strong and prosperous, a mission Wells Fargo has always believed is important.”
