What is the Upstate drinking? Liquid Catering now knows

August 15, 2016

Is boxed wine the new thing? What is more popular vodka or bourbon? What is the Upstate’s beer of choice?

Liquid Catering did an extensive survey of more than 500 Upstate event attendees, planners and vendors to get these answers this summer. Some of the highlights from this exclusive survey include:

• 69 percent of people were fine with boxed wine as long as it tasted good. Additionally, 18 percent of consumers believed that wine is wine, despite where it comes from. A small number of people, 13 percent, believed that if it doesn’t have a cork it’s not worth drinking.
• When it comes to the preferred style of liquor, vodka has a slight edge over bourbon 36.36 percent to 34.09 percent. Scotch, Canadian Whiskey and rum are tied for third with 6.92 percent each.
• As for favorite brand of vodka, Tito’s leads the way with 42.22 percent and Absolut is second with 13.33 percent. The rest of the voters were undecided.
• Beer drinkers voted for more than 30 different brands and styles. Blue Moon had the most votes with 31.82 percent followed by Stella Artois 25 percent, R.J. Rocker’s Son of Peach with 20.45 and Yuengling with 18.18.

“We want people to get the best customer service,” said Tammy Johnson, the company’s owner. “That means we need to know what they want when they go to an event.”

Liquid Catering did the survey as part of its continued efforts to create the ultimate customer service experience, Johnson said. They wanted to know what the average wedding attendee, gala fan or corporate event patron really wants.

“The data is interesting because it flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but also shows growth in the Upstate wine market,” she said. “People are learning that the packaging of wine is not nearly as important as the taste.”
