Whitaker Funeral Home Honored for Excellence and Leadership

October 30, 2012

NEWBERRY, SC – October 30, 2012 – Whitaker Funeral Home was recently honored by the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) with the 2012 Pursuit of Excellence Award. Only 164 firms from around the world received this prestigious recognition, placing Whitaker Funeral Home among an elite group of funeral service professionals.

In addition to receiving the 2012 NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award, Whitaker Funeral Home was also inducted into the NFDA Hall of Excellence. Created to recognize a consistent display of service excellence, NFDA-member funeral homes are inducted into the Hall of Excellence upon receiving their 10th Pursuit of Excellence Award.

“We are certainly honored to receive our tenth Pursuit of Excellence Award and to be inducted into the National Funeral Directors Association Hall of Fame,” said Erin Whitaker, funeral director.  “Our family-owned funeral home continues to place a high value on providing families with high-quality, compassionate services, and we adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards demanded by our industry. We remain committed to ensuring families in the greater Newberry and Chapin communities receive excellent service and care when they work with Whitaker Funeral Home.”

To earn an NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award, funeral homes must meet or exceed business standards set forth by the program and demonstrate proficiency in key areas of funeral service, such as compliance with state and federal regulations; providing ongoing education and professional development for staff; offering outstanding programs and resources for bereaved families; and maintaining a high level of involvement in the community while serving in the funeral service profession.

In addition to providing outstanding service and value to the families it serves, Whitaker Funeral Home has been a fixture in the Newberry and Chapin communities for its exceptional community service and outreach initiatives. Whitaker regularly supports civic and charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Association, SC March of Dimes, and Wreaths Across America; provides speakers for area meetings on topics related to distracted driving, disaster response, grief and healing, the value of ceremony and planning ahead; and participates in local healthcare seminars and career fairs to educate citizens about the funeral industry.

Whitaker Funeral Home also hosts Annual Services of Remembrance to honor loved ones lost in the Chapin and Newberry communities.  This Sunday, November 4, the Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 pm at the Newberry home, 1704 College Street, and the Chapin service will be held the following Sunday, November 11 at its 939 Chapin Road location. All are welcome to attend this special memorial service, which includes music, prayers and candle lighting ceremonies. For more information, call 803-276-5000.
