Winners announced in the inaugural Reedy Reels Film Festival

October 22, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – Four films were honored at the inaugural Reedy Reels Film Festival over the weekend at CU-ICAR.

In the Documentary category, “Naleena” by Luigi Storto of Teramo, Italy was the winner. “Cinema Purgatoria” by Chris White of Greenville was the winner in the Feature category. Geoffrey Gunn’s “Last Night at the Ellington” won the best Short Film award. “Shelter County” by Greenville’s Micah Taylor won honors in the S.C. Short Film category.

More than 700 entries were submitted for the two-day event on October 16 and 17 at the CU-ICAR facility in Greenville. The Reedy Reels Film Festival is a non-profit organization that supports the education and appreciation of filmmaking.

Organizers said the idea for Reedy Reels Film Festival came from seeing a gap in the Upstate arts scene. There is a thriving film industry in the region and there is a large demand for more film options. However, there has been no effort until now to have one large festival that organizers believe will grow to one of the premier events in the region in the next few years.

Event organizers were excited by the success of the inaugural festival and are busy developing plans for 2016.
