With Spring Comes New Beginnings – Are You Ready?

Everyone loves spring. With the warmer weather, sunnier days, blooming plants and general new beginnings what’s not to love. It literally is a breath of fresh air.

Speaking of love and new beginnings, the world of online dating seems to have exploded. You can’t watch TV, read your email or listen to the radio without being bombarded with a new dating site or app. Since online dating is now a $2-billion-dollar industry it’s not hard to understand why, but a new survey from MIC sheds light on its effectiveness. Essentially they surveyed over 2,000 couples between 18-34 on how they met and nearly 80% met in real life, not through a website.

With St. Patrick’s Day festivities this weekend social situations and friends will abound, so here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re single and looking for love:

1.    Dress For The Date. You may have the perfect date outfit in your mind, but if it isn’t appropriate for the activity it’s going to fail, and chances are so will your date. Contrary to popular marketing campaigns the LBD does not work for every occasion. Not only is black a poor color choice for a date, unless it’s a formal event the LBD doesn’t scream fun.

2.    Comfort Counts. Whether it’s a first date or not, this is not the time to break in new shoes or wear anything that makes you self-conscious. Ideally you want to spend time focusing on your date, not fussing over your outfit or constantly adjusting it.

3.    Highlight Your Best Assets Modestly. Being confident with yourself is great and that usually means you want to show off a bit. However, keep it understated. Showing off one area is the perfect balance. So if you want to show off your arms make sure your legs are fully covered. When you show more skin than that your look quickly goes from flirty to trashy.

4.    You Get Out What You Put In. Your look is your personal brand and it says a lot about who you are. Since dating is all about compatibility it’s fair to say you will attract certain types of people based on how you dress. While you should always be true to yourself, if you aren’t finding your ideal dates try changing up your look a bit. You can personalize any style.

If you’re single and hate online dating, there is hope. Friends, work and social settings were the most common ways people met their significant others, and since it seems to happen when you least expect it my recommendation would be to make every outfit a date-worthy one.
