MCCORMICK, SC – Dr. Zebulon Young has accepted the position of director of human resources at John de la Howe School in McCormick.

Confirmed by the school’s board of trustees at their meeting Wednesday, Dr. Young has served there as human resources manager and activities coordinator for the past year and a half. He has more than 10 years of experience in the human resources field, getting his start at an entry level position in the private sector while attending college.

Dr. Young holds several degrees and professional certifications from institutions such as Lander University, Piedmont Technical College, Webster University, Asbury Seminary and Atlantic Coast Theological Seminary.

In his new position, Dr. Young said he will strive to provide leadership in the recruitment and retention of quality employees committed to the mission of John de la Howe, which provides a safe haven for children to heal, grow and make lasting changes.

“My goal is for human resources to provide excellent customer service and support for all our staff members,” he said. “I plan an emphasis on developing and maintaining a climate of mutual trust, confidence and sensitivity to the needs of everyone.”

John de la Howe School had been without a human resources director since July, when Faye Gowans, the former director, left to accept a position in Columbia.

“Dr. Young is an excellent choice to assist in moving John de la Howe forward,” said Dr. Danny Webb, president of the 217-year-old school. “I also applaud Debbie Daniels, our human resources specialist, for working so diligently in this interim period. She has offered valuable assistance to our leadership team, working closely with the South Carolina Human Resources Office regarding personnel matters.”

A native of Orangeburg, Dr. Young has lived and worked in the Greenwood area for the past 15 years.
