Your vision for 2015 – How to determine your values
December 7, 2014By Jerry Bellune
You may think the following a bit grim.
It is an end-of-life exercise that you need to do yearly.
Entrepreneur MaryEllen Tribby shared it with me.
It is so revealing that I’m sharing it with you.
It’s called “My Ultimate Note.”
Consider it my personal gift to you.
It has a price: It will cost you about 10 minutes.
First take the list we used last week.
On paper, you should have these three headings:
1. Mind, body and soul.
This is your mental, physical and spiritual self.
2. Family, friends and fun.
Your loved ones and what you love to do with them.
3. Calling, achievements and legacy.
What you feel called to do and how you excel at it.
It concludes with how you want to be remembered.
Next, read these brief instructions:
God has told you this was your final day on earth.
You can leave your loved ones a handwritten note.
They will find it after you are gone.
What would you write in the three areas listed above?
Don’t take a lot of time to ponder this.
Just write from the heart instead of your head.
What you write will mean a lot to your loved ones.
You may choose to show it to them now.
That’s up to you. But it will do this for you:
It will show you what you truly value.
It will help you probe your deepest desires.
It will tell you what really matters in your life.
Sure, you may not think you’re going to die today.
But none of us know when that day will come.
Even it you have a fatal illness, you don’t really know.
And most of us would rather not know.
Death is inevitable but we want to life it to the fullest.
There’s one best way to do that.
Live today as if today might be your last.
