Zucker School graduates to lead educational efforts this fall in local districts

More than 50 percent of CCSD’s new leadership hires hold degrees from the Zucker School
The Zucker Family School of Education at The Citadel continues to be a driving force behind the development of the Lowcountry’s educational workforce, steadily producing principled leaders for K-12 classrooms. Among the educators preparing for the August return of students are recent graduates from the school’s master’s degree programs, who were already working in the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester County school districts or who will be.
Known as a full-service education program, the Zucker School of Education has a reputation for helping teachers advance in their careers and for helping school systems identify and train future leaders within their ranks. Recently, seven out of 13 new Charleston County School District leadership hires received degrees from the Zucker School of Education.
Caroline Moore of Summerville, South Carolina, is a Class of 2017 counselor education graduate. She says the supportive staff and wonderful reputation ranks high on the list of the great things about the Zucker School of Education, but that it was the range of resources and opportunities that she appreciated most.
“Not only were there social networking opportunities, but there were many chances to see learner-centered counseling in progress,” said Moore. “Observing counseling in action was an integral part of my learning experience. Not only did I obtain knowledge from the course books, but I was also given the chance to apply it first hand which made learning come to life and made everything very relevant.”
Welcoming the Lowcountry’s newest education professionals
In August, Moore will begin work as a school counselor at Oakbrook Elementary in Dorchester County School District Two.

- Craig Rieth, Charleston Charter School for Math and Science (Charleston)
- Edward Scott, Fort Dorchester High School (Dorchester)
