“The Southern Shootout” Lacrosse Tournament Comes to Columbia in June

Columbia, SC – February 5, 2008 –  The South East Lacrosse Association (SELA) will host “The Southern Shootout” lacrosse tournament in Columbia, SC at the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium located on the campus of Benedict College.  The tournament will be held June 26 – 28, 2008.  This event will mark Benedict College as the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to ever host a lacrosse tournament.

The Akwesasne Nation from Montreal, Canada will be competing in the tournament along with various other international teams.  Lacrosse is the native game for the Akwesasne and “The Southern Shootout” is the first lacrosse appearance of the Akwesasne in the United States.
