‘Probing Einstein’s Universe’ topic of April 1 lecture at University of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC – March 23, 2009 – The life and work of physicist Albert Einstein will be the focus of a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Barry C. Barish, an emeritus professor of high-energy physics at the California Institute of Technology, will present a program, titled “Probing Einstein’s Universe.”
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Bouknight Auditorium (Room 210) of the Jones Physical Science Center on South Main Street. It is sponsored by the university’s department of physics and astronomy.
Einstein was an unknown employee in the Swiss Patent Office in 1906 when he published a series of papers that revolutionized physics and laid the foundation for his research that led to the Theory of General Relativity, which is considered his greatest achievement.
