Local study participants contribute to the first Ebola vaccine distributed by WHO
May 24, 2018As of Monday, May 21, 2018 an experimental Ebola vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company Merck, is being used to contain an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2015, Coastal Carolina Research Center in Mt. Pleasant, SC conducted a clinical trial of this vaccine with Lowcountry volunteers participating and advancing its development.
Dr. Cynthia Strout, Medical Director of Coastal Carolina Research Center stated, “It is easy to get busy and not think how important the studies we do really are. We studied this Ebola vaccine three years ago and it’s a privilege to be a small part of helping fight this terrible disease.”
