Multiple Listing Service of Hilton Head Island is instrumental in Council of Multiple Listing Service mid-year meeting

July 18, 2017

Multiple Listing Service of Hilton Head Island (HHIMLS) played an instrumental role in the Council of Multiple Listing Service (CMLS) mid-year meeting. CMLS is a trade organization that serves to advance the MLS industry through unified leadership, cooperation, and education across the real estate industry. These semi-annual meetings keep HHIMLS members up-to-date with the latest information to best serve homebuyers and sellers.

CMLS introduced a unified brand message in a new marketing packet that will be distributed among its members. The idea came from the inaugural MLS Expert Program, of which HHIMLS Chief Executive Officer Colette Stevenson was a part. The packet includes brochures, advertisements, and emails that provide a unified message for MLSs.

Stevenson was also involved in a discussion on a project by the company UpstreamRE, LLC. Real estate brokers created Upstream to bypass the MLS and give brokers more control of the data for which they’re responsible. But Upstream changed direction, saying brokers must first input listings into their local MLS and it will add a dashboard to push the MLS listings to Upstream if brokers decide to do so.

Stevenson facilitated, with other CMLS leaders, roundtable discussions at the National Association of Realtors MLS Forum Breakouts sessions which included “coming soon” or “pocket listings,” a hot topic in the industry right now. A “coming soon” listing is a home that is not yet officially on the market, but will be listed for sale within time frames determined by individual MLSs. The MLSs shared what they could do to keep pocket listings from skewing their statistics. Based on that discussion, HHIMLS is considering adding a “coming soon” status to its listings in order to keep their data as accurate as possible.

“HHIMLS always strives to best serve our members and maintain the standard of utilizing cutting-edge technology to do so,” said Colette Stevenson, chief executive officer of HHIMLS. “These improvements to multiple listing services will continue to enhance our ability to save our home buyers and sellers, members, and staff valuable time and resources.”
