Charleston Symphony Orchestra renews Ken Lam as Music Director

The Board of Directors of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) announced the extension of Music Director Ken Lam’s contract for five years. Cynthia Hartley, President of the Board, says, “We are very fortunate to have someone of the caliber of Maestro Lam as Music Director of the CSO. Our new five-year agreement ensures that he will continue to lead our orchestra to new heights of performance and delight our audiences for years to come.”
Maestro Lam joined the CSO during the 2014-2015 season as Music Director Designate and took on full responsibilities of Music Director in the 2015-2016 season. He completes his second full season with the CSO this month.

Together with our incredible musicians, dedicated symphony staff, and strong and supportive board, I look forward to building upon the work that we have done in the past two seasons and strengthening our position in Charleston’s vibrant arts scene for our loyal patrons,” said Lam.
Maestro Lam is the recipient of Johns Hopkins University’s 2015 Global Achievement Award, and serves as the resident conductor of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, Artistic Director of Hong Kong Voices, and Music Director of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Lam enjoys an active national and international career with recent conducting appearances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and at the Spoleto Festival USA, Lincoln Center Festival and Luminato Festival in Toronto.
