Comfort for Heroes Program Honors a Local Columbia Family in Need with New Bryant HVAC System

Cool Care Heating & Air continues in their local giving by starting a new campaign – Comfort for Heroes – to donate a brand-new Bryant HVAC system either to a military or first responders’ family in the Greater Midlands.

Launched in June, with collaboration from Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems, Carrier Enterprise, Aeroseal, 94.3 The Dude and ColaDaily.com, Comfort for Heroes received an overwhelming response. The program is the brainchild of Teresa Wardlaw, Co-Owner and President of Cool Care Heating & Air. “The military and first responders have always been important to us. Most of us have loved ones that have served in either capacity, and we wanted to be able to help families who make those sacrifices,” she stated.

The first winner is Fire Marshall Terry Mueller, a first responder with the City of Cayce Fire Department. He and his wife, Nancy-Lynn, live in Northeast Columbia. Nancy-Lynn is battling two forms of incurable cancer that impact her bone marrow and blood. The majority of their budget goes toward her medical expenses and increased utility bills due to running a sixteen-year-old system constantly in an effort to keep her comfortable. Due to her medical treatment, she has experienced elevated body temperatures requiring them to lower the set point on their thermostat.

According to a fellow firefighter, he always gives 110%, strives for advancement and really values being able to help others in need. Captain Lorick, of the City of Cayce Fire Department, stated that no one deserved this more than The Mueller’s and would like to personally thank the judges for voting for Terry and Nancy-Lynn.

Cool Care will be providing The Mueller’s with a brand-new Bryant high-efficiency heating and air system, including installation and a whole home assessment, at no charge to them. Due to The Mueller’s circumstances, Cool Care will also be performing Aeroseal duct sealing to improve the indoor air quality, reduce dust and significantly lower utility costs.

The importance of serving the community is why Cool Care Heating & Air enjoys donating. Mrs. Wardlaw expressed, “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us, and we are grateful to be able to do it.” The units that Cool Care has donated over the years have always ended up with the right families, with the most need, according to Wardlaw. Seeing the excitement from the family puts things into perspective for her. “It gives you hope that there is still good in today’s complicated world that we live in,” she stated. “We all need those gentle reminders once in awhile.”
