Enjoy the outdoors with new green space in downtown Columbia

May 1, 2018

There’s a new outdoor space for local residents to enjoy at Richland Library Main (1431 Assembly Street). The Upper Level parking lot, located at the corner of Hampton and Park Streets, is officially back open on Monday, April 30.

The biggest feature is the addition of nearly 8,000 square feet of green space. Open during library hours, the plaza offers customers a combination of outdoor seating, Wi-Fi accessibility and a unique area to safely enjoy outdoor library programs.

There is also supplementary ADA-accessible parking and electric car charging stations. Public parking is available in the Lower Level parking lot, located at the corner of Park and Washington Streets.

It’s the second of three major, exterior renovation projects at our Main location. The final phase includes a new Garden Level entrance, which is expected to open later this year. For a closer look at building updates, click here.

Construction to the Upper Level parking lot is part of a nearly $15 million project, planned for Richland Library Main. It was made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013, which will enhance our library facilities over the next few years.
