July 19, 2017

Capital Rotarian Darren Foy introduces Kate Elizabeth Chalfant of Columbia as the latest recipient of a $5,000 college scholarship awarded by the club, renewable annually for four years. Chalfant will major in theater at the University of South Carolina.

As a high school student, Chalfant has been active in Coumbia Children’s Theatre and its STAR (Student Thespians Achieving Results) program to raise over $10,000 for local charities. She’s also been president of the S.C. Association of Independent Home Schools Statewide Student Council.

Foy is chairman of Capital Rotary’s scholarship selection committee. The club has been supporting the educational aspirations of local high school graduates for more than 20 years. Its scholarships are based on a combination of academic performance, extracurricular activity and economic need.
