ASID Carolinas Designer Showhouse Chosen in Camden – April 21-May 7, 2016

December 17, 2015

Camden — The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Carolinas is partnering with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) to bring the excitement of a Designer Showhouse to historic Camden, SC. The 2016 ASID Carolinas Designer Showhouse will run from April 21 to May 7, 2016, and will feature the work of professional interior designers from the region as they produce new designs for 18 rooms of the historic, 7,300 square foot home of Beth and Scott Warnock. Proceeds from the 2016 Designer Showhouse will benefit the FAC.

• About the Showhouse
Located in one of Camden’s most historic and charming areas, the circa 1850 home of the Warnock’s is located on land once owned by the DuPont family. Known as Wimberly Hall, the house was once a meeting place for members of Lyttleton Street Methodist Church (LSUMC.) The home, named for Reverend CF Wimberly, pastor of LSUMC from 1932-37 was deeded to the church in 1851 by two widows, Sarah Ciples (1785-1863) and Amelia Haile (1795-1880) to be used as a parsonage. The home was used for that purpose until 1955 when it was then used for various meetings, weddings and other community events up to 1992. Due to the historic importance of the home, the decision was made to try to move the home rather than tear it down.

The church reached out to the community and before long, Scott and Beth Warnock came to the rescue. Due to their love of historic homes, and appreciation for the significance of the home itself, the couple took on the daunting and expensive task of disassembling and moving the home to a piece of property they owned on Greene Street. The roof was removed and the home literally cut in half (first and second floors) for the move.
Beams were removed and numbered so that they could be properly rebuilt on the new site. The property itself has a historic background. It was once owned by the Marion Dupont family and part of the famous Battle of Hobkirk took place around the property where the home now sits.

The home has been well maintained over the years and its current owners have generously agreed to allow their home to be part of this exciting endeavor. The 18 rooms which will be designed encompass both floors of the home. The areas include a formal living room, formal dining room, master bedroom, master closet, master bath, kitchen, central hallway, den, powder room, front porch and deck in the downstairs area. Upstairs areas include four guest bedrooms, hallway, and two guest baths.

The two-week event will kick off with a black tie Soiree on Thursday, April 21. Other planned activities on the grounds of the Showhouse will include a ladies luncheon and a trendy fashion show. Also, the FAC’s Finally Friday free outdoor concert series will take place Friday, April 29 on the grounds of the Showhouse. Shopping opportunities will include arts & crafts, jewelry and antique vendors with fabulous items for the home in the stalls of the barn located on the grounds. A meet and greet with the designers is also being planned. More details about the event will be released soon.
