Spartanburg leaders ready to make change throughout the county
September 18, 2018
The Grassroots Leadership Development Institute (GLDI) graduated twenty-seven new community leaders during a ceremony held at the Spartanburg Marriott Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. Graduates, their family members, and community leaders were in attendance during the celebratory event. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 350 individuals have graduated from the Institute and currently serve the community in various leadership roles.
The Grassroots Leadership Development Institute is a seven-month leadership development program designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skill-set, and resources to be effective in leading change throughout the greater Spartanburg County community and beyond. Participants meet one Saturday a month, for seven months, to increase their ability to make a positive difference on the local, regional, and national levels. For the past 12 years, the City of Spartanburg has joined the Foundation as a sponsor by sending several of the City’s local neighborhood leaders through the Institute, thereby increasing their ability to bring about significant change in their neighborhoods.
“For 15 years, the Grassroots Leadership Development Institute has honed in on building leadership skills, knowledge, and resources that benefit the people of Spartanburg. We are proud of the leaders who graduated tonight. They join the ranks of many alumni who are working in their neighborhoods to make Spartanburg a better place,” said Mary Thomas, chief operating officer of The Spartanburg County Foundation.
