Business leader Guy Furay announces for Congress as American Party candidate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – With a promise to always “Listen First,” local business leader Guy Furay announced he is seeking the American Party’s nomination for Congress in the Fourth District.
Furay founded The Insurance Source, an independent brokerage specializing in health, life, disability and dental insurance, in 2005 and has been extremely active in the Greenville, Spartanburg and Greer business communities.
His knowledge of the insurance industry is a main reason he decided to run as well as what sets him apart from the numerous other candidates running for the seat being vacated by incumbent Trey Gowdy.
“Our healthcare system is broken, and we need to fix it. We need to fix it now,” Furay said. “Paying for healthcare is what keeps the average American up at night. But instead of fixing it, Washington has turned it into a political grudge match.”
The political divide in Washington between Republicans and Democrats is the reason he is running as the candidate for American Party, which was formed in 2014 to present a centrist alternative to the current divided party system.
“The system in Washington has become rigged against the American people,” Furay said. “The parties have rigged it because they can make money off it. It’s time to put the people over parties.”
Furay also outlined a campaign focused on setting term limits to keep elected officials working for the people not Washington insiders; increasing lackluster voter turnout and bridging the political divide that the party system has created.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, Furay began his insurance career in 1997 with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Furay earned the FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) and GBA (Group Benefits Associate) designations. He also completed four of the eight graduate level courses to earn the CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) designation at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
In the past few years, he has been recognized as one of Healthcare.gov’s Elite Circle of Champions; a three time winner of the Soaring Eagle Award from National Association of Health Underwriters; a current member of Leadership Greer, a graduate of the Greenville Chamber Advanced Political Leadership program; a graduate of Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce Advanced Political Leadership program, and an Upstate Chamber Coalition Washington DC Delegation participant.
“We always hear politicians say it’s ‘time for a change,’ but they are representing the same parties that have caused the inertia of the status quo,” Furay said. “Our politicians are catering to the far sides of the political spectrum and forcing middle America to choose. I am here to represent the people that the parties have forgotten.”
