Greenville’s Only Outdoor Ice Skating Rink to open November 17, 2017

United Community Bank Ice on Main is pleased to announce its seventh season on Main Street will open Friday, November 17, 2017. Greenville’s only outdoor skating rink will be open seven days a week, including holidays, through January 15, 2018. Over the past six years, more than 86,000 skaters have celebrated United Community Bank Ice on Main.

“United Community Bank Ice on Main has brought winter fun to our community here in Greenville for six years and we are glad to bring back a seventh season,” said Mayor Knox White. “Whether you are a resident or simply visiting for the holiday season, we encourage all to join us on November 17 as we welcome back Greenville’s favorite holiday tradition!”

The City of Greenville, along with many community partners, make the outdoor ice rink possible. For a fifth year, United Community Bank will serve as the title sponsor of Ice on Main. Other returning sponsors include Duke Energy, ReWa’s Dig Greenville project, Greenville Health System, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, Greenville Drive, Piedmont Natural Gas, Peace Center, Macy’s, Greenville News, Greenville Swamp Rabbits, WYFF4, iHeart Media, Fairway Outdoor, Courtyard Marriott Greenville Downtown, Crawford Strategy, Community Foundation, Creative Builders, Triangle Construction and Gimme-A-Sign.

“This season marks United Community Bank’s fifth year as the title sponsor of Ice on Main,” said Michelle Seaver, President of United Community Bank for Greenville County. “Each year, we look forward to spreading the joy of Ice on Main and are eager to help the Greenville community celebrate the holiday season!”

Seven years ago, the founding vision for the outdoor skating rink in the heart of downtown was to create Greenville’s version of New York City’s Rockefeller Center. For the fourth consecutive year, the Peace Center, the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and United Community Bank are partnering together to present the Skate Your Way to Broadway contest that will send one skater and a guest to New York City to enjoy the real Rockefeller Center. One lucky winner will win airline tickets to New York City, tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, a $500 Visa gift card and passes to skate at the Rockefeller Center, as well as tickets to opening night of The Phantom of the Opera at the Peace Center. More details can be found at skateyourwaytobroadway.com.

The Opening Day ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17, with the rink opening to the public at 4 p.m. The ceremony will include announcements from event sponsors, live entertainment and the ceremonial first skate. The public is invited to attend. Details about the Opening Day ceremony and season events are available at www.iceonmain.com.
