Upstate Transportation Coalition launches new website, releases Business Case for Transit

The Upstate Transportation Coalition has launched a new website at utcsc.org and has released its first study, “Business Case for Transit: Greenville County,” in cooperation with Greenville Health System, SC Works and Greenville Technical College.
The UTC website is an information source for learning about multimodal and public transit initiatives across the Upstate, along with advocacy efforts to increase public transportation investment. The site also includes a calendar of events for transportation-related meetings taking place throughout the Upstate region.
The website’s “Be Informed” section features transportation and mobility plans and studies commissioned by a variety of organizations, as well as the UTC’s recently published “Business Case for Transit: Greenville County.” The study examines how improved public transportation could benefit economic development and provide better access to education and healthcare in the county. For example, a survey conducted by Greenville Technical College in April 2017 revealed that 10.7% of the respondents have had to withdraw from a class due to unreliable transportation. The study concludes that improving transportation services could help more people access higher education and help ensure that employers have the skilled workforce to succeed and grow, impacting the area’s economic success.
