Inaugural Citizens Transit Academy to begin next week
January 3, 2019On Tuesday, Greenlink will welcome 20 participants to the Citizens Transit Academy, a free, four-week program designed to offer Greenville County residents a unique opportunity to learn about public transportation and the opportunities and challenges facing Greenlink. According to Gary Shepard, Greenlink’s director of public transportation, applicants for the new program ranged from neighborhood residents to employees of local human service agencies and major companies, and the amount of interest it received prompted Greenlink to increase the size of its first class.
“We originally planned to accept 15 applicants, but after receiving more than 40 applications, we decided to revisit that number,” said Shepard. “The purpose of the Citizens Transit Academy is to educate the community about the role of public transit, so we’re excited to expand the class size and offer this opportunity to more people from across Greenville County who are interested in getting involved in discussions about mobility.”
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greenlink Transit Center at 100 West McBee Avenue.
