Another McNulty winner from Liberty Fellowship
July 10, 2018The McNulty Foundation has named Liberty Fellow Adela Mendoza (Class of 2016) as one of the inaugural recipients of the McNulty Prize Catalyst Fund for her visionary Liberty Fellowship project, Student DREAMers Alliance.
The John P. McNulty Prize, with the Aspen Global Leadership Network, honors high-integrity, entrepreneurial leaders working to address intractable global challenges. Since 2008, the McNulty Foundation has invested over $4.5 million in the McNulty Prize, recognizing 40 Laureates and their exceptional ventures working in over 20 countries. This year, the McNulty Foundation has launched the Catalyst Fund to amplify this impact by supporting innovative social ventures at vital inflection points led by Fellows in the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Student DREAMers Alliance (SDA) is one of six ventures recognized this year with monetary awards from the Catalyst Fund.
Adela explains, “The Student Dreamers Alliance is an unprecedented leadership accelerator model designed to empower and magnify a voice from within immigrant student communities to increase awareness of education inequity and advocate for changes in state legislation to achieve equal access to public, post-secondary education for all youth.” With 100% of its pilot-year seniors attending college — some with prestigious awards and scholarships — SDA is entering new school districts this year on its path to statewide reach.
Adela called upon the Liberty Fellowship network to implement SDA. Fellows John Few (Class of 2008), Windsor Sherrill (Class of 2013), John Simpkins (Class of 2009) and Deb Sofield (Class of 2011) have been key in its success, stepping up to share their expertise with DREAMers.
As an inaugural recipient of the McNulty Prize Catalyst Fund, Adela will be recognized during the 2018 Resnick Aspen Action Forum later this month. In the meantime, read the full release and more about Student DREAMers Alliance.
This honor underscores the importance of the work Liberty Fellows are doing to move South Carolina forward. Thank you for your continued support of Liberty Fellowship.
