Spartanburg Art Co-op hosts three exhibits – April 3 – May 12

West Main Artists Co-op in Spartanburg is hosting three new art exhibits in April: “Living Paper Creatures,” a large collection of life-sized papier maché animals by Grace Jerome Lloyd of Charlotte, NC; “Murmurs,” fused glass sculptures that convey concern for the environment by Shelley Sperka of Tryon, NC; and “Observer Observed,” hand-pulled prints based on historic Civil War documents by Pickens County printmaker Steven A. Chapp. All of these exhibits are free for public viewing Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 578 West Main Street.

“Living Paper Creatures,” opened April 3 and will close April 28. The reception will be Saturday, April 14, 5-9 p.m.
Both “Observer Observed” and “Murmurs” will open Thursday, April 19, and will close May 12. The receptions will be Thursday, April 19, during city’s monthly ArtWalk, 5-9 p.m.
West Main Artists Co-op is a nonprofit and all-volunteer arts agency on Main Street Spartanburg. It is housed in the former West Main Baptist Church and is continuously renovated by its members who are 50-plus strong. It provides affordable work spaces for more than 30 artists in the 20,000-square-foot building. In addition, the Co-op has the largest collection of locally made art for sale with extremely diverse buying options, including pottery, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, quilts. Each month, the Co-op hosts three new exhibits by its members and nonmembers, some of whom enjoy regional and even national recognition.
