March 29, 2018

Spartanburg Water’s Syndee Poteat recently was honored by the Water Environment Association of South Carolina’s (WEASC) top award for water quality analysis at the South Carolina Environmental Conference. The Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award recognizes individuals for outstanding performance, professionalism and contributions to their profession.

“We congratulate Syndee Poteat on this well-deserved recognition,” said John Westcott, Spartanburg Water Regulatory Compliance Manager.

Poteat is a longtime Spartanburg Water employee who began her career as a lab assistant in 1990 and is now the Laboratory Services Section Manager.

WEASC guidelines require the award recipient to be a member of its national organization, the Water Environment Federation. The honoree must be employed at an educational facility or an industrial, commercial or municipal laboratory that performs wastewater-related analysis, and must have direct analytical responsibilities.

Qualifications for the award are stringent and include outstanding efforts in wastewater and environmental aquatic analyses, including innovative sampling techniques or solutions to a treatment, analytical or environmental problem. Nominees must show involvement in community activities or public relations, give presentations at professional conferences, meetings, etc., relevant to water quality analysis, and hold professional certifications. Nominees should also have made contributions that have been beneficial to the nominee’s facility and show unusual initiative or performance “beyond the call of duty.”
