Commerce Club to Host Commemoration for Major Rudolph Anderson Jr

September 28, 2017

The Commerce Club in downtown Greenville will host a commemorative event on October 17 at 6:00 p.m. to honor Greenville native, Major Rudolph Anderson Jr. and mark the 55th anniversary of the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a crisis of which Major Anderson was the only casualty. Colonel Wayne Whitten, USMC (Ret.), author of Without a Warning, will present the untold story of the intelligence failure that led to Major Anderson’s tragic loss based on previously highly classified documents.

The Commerce Club invites the community to attend this free event, featuring complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

“We are excited to welcome Colonel Whitten to our Club for this special event”, said John Welter, General Manager of the Commerce Club. “To disclose and share the details leading up to the loss of our very own local Greenville legend, is to honor Major Rudolph Anderson Jr.!”

Members of Clemson’s AFROTC Detachment 770’s Rudolph Anderson Squadron of the Arnold Air Society will be special guests of the evening. American Legion Post 214, also named in his honor, will be recognized along with other local organizations and the South Carolina Aviation Association where Major Anderson is in the Hall of Fame.
