Fluor Foundation Scholarships help women pursue construction careers

August 22, 2017

The Fluor Foundation expanded its Craft Education Initiative in 2016 to create a pipeline of skilled craft professionals to meet the company’s growing manpower needs in the Southeastern United States. In Greenville, a strong emphasis is placed on attracting females to these traditionally male-dominated careers.

This year, The Fluor Foundation has added to the scholarship fund at Greenville Technical College (GTC), donating $7,500. The scholarships are benefitting students, GTC, and employers.

“We are grateful once again to the Fluor Foundation for encouraging women to pursue careers in welding and other skilled crafts,” said Kelvin Byrd, associate dean for industrial technologies at Greenville Technical College. “This gift increases the number of people who can receive assistance, and is helping to build the pipeline of qualified people ready to enter these rewarding careers.”
