Countybank Foundation donates $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity

July 31, 2017

Countybank, celebrating 85 years of community banking in the Upstate, has announced a major gift of $100,000 over the next five years to Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity. This donation will support general operations, programming and infrastructure for the organization, including area home builds. “Countybank has a long-standing reputation for philanthropy in Greenwood and throughout the Upstate,” says Lynn Turner, Commercial Relationship Manager at Countybank Greenwood. “It is wonderful to be part of a team that values giving back and supporting our home community. We are very excited to see the work that Greenwood Habitat will do with this gift.” Countybank and its parent company, TCB Corporation, has been supporting local area nonprofits in Greenwood and the Upstate region since its founding in 1933. Funds for this gift come from The Countybank Foundation. The Foundation is supported by contributions from each of TCB Corporation’s business lines, including Countybank, Countybanc Insurance Services, Inc., Countybanc Investment Services, Inc., Countybank Mortgage, Countybank Trust Services, and its affiliate, Greenwood Capital Associates, LLC. “This partnership between Countybank and Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity is an investment in our community and our Homebuyer Families. It gives our community a sense of caring, a better place to work, live and raise a family,” said Chad Charles, Executive Director of Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity. “To our families, it means affordable homeownership, financial stability, wealth building, a sense of pride and self-worth. A place to call their own and where children prosper. It is about the communities and families we serve every day. We could not be more grateful for this partnership with Countybank.” This year, Greenwood Area Habitat built their 90th house for a local area family in need. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds houses with the help of homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no-profit and are financed with affordable, zero-interest loans at terms of 20 years. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are used to build other Habitat houses. In addition to the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest 500 hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.
