The Mary Black Foundation awards $555,000 in grants
June 14, 2017SPARTANBURG, SC – The Mary Black Foundation announced that it awarded $555,000 in grants to 5 nonprofit organizations through its Adolescent Health Initiative, Connect. Connect seeks to promote adolescent friendly services and opportunities throughout Spartanburg to achieve positive outcomes for all adolescents.
- Spartanburg County School District One was awarded $63,000 to (1) implement curriculum designed to encourage and guide youth toward envisioning a positive future self and (2) facilitate positive youth development activities.

Spartanburg County School District Six was awarded $95,000 to (1) implement curriculum designed to encourage and guide youth toward envisioning a positive future self and (2) facilitate positive youth development activities.
- Spartanburg County School District Seven was awarded $103,000 to (1) implement curriculum designed to encourage and guide youth toward envisioning a positive future self and (2) facilitate positive youth development activities.
- BirthMatters was awarded $160,000 to provide community-based prevention programs for youth in a variety of settings throughout Spartanburg.
- City of Spartanburg was awarded $134,000 to support the Parks and Recreation Department’s positive youth development and youth leadership development activities.
Molly Talbot-Metz, Vice President of Programs for the Mary Black Foundation said, “Through a grant from the federal Office of Adolescent of Health, the Foundation has been able to leverage additional funds to support effective programming for adolescents in Spartanburg. The Foundation is excited to be able to support these organizations as they work to make Spartanburg a healthier community for our next generation.”
