GHS chief nursing officer receives healthcare executive award
March 2, 2017GREENVILLE, SC – Michelle Taylor-Smith, vice president of patient care services, chief nursing officer and chief experience officer for Greenville Health System (GHS), received the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award at the South Carolina Hospital Association’s annual meeting in Columbia earlier this year.
The annual Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award recognizes ACHE members who are experienced in the field and have made significant contributions to the advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of ACHE’s goals. Taylor-Smith, a member of the South Carolina chapter of the ACHE since 2014, was nominated based on her exemplary career as a healthcare executive, her contributions to the development of healthcare leaders and her ability to build positive relationships with nurses, physicians and support staff.
Taylor-Smith began her career in health care in 1978. She has served as a staff nurse, nurse manager, director of community health, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer for a number of hospitals in Ohio and Michigan. She came to Greenville in 2011, where she currently serves as vice president of patient care services, chief nursing officer and chief experience officer for GHS. She also routinely presents with Carson Dye as part of the Up and Comers Boot Camp, a national program for new C-suite executives and those planning to gain a position in the C-suite.
Taylor-Smith has an applied science, bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing and administration. She is board certified as a nurse administrator and has a certificate in healthcare finance from the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
