A Conversation with Darrell Jackson, CEO/President and David Jones, Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, Jackson Marketing, Motorsports & Events

Jackson Marketing, Motorsports & Events was founded in 1980 as Jackson-Dawson in Detroit, Michigan. At that time, founder Larry Jackson and his growing team specialized in dealer training and product launches for the auto industry.

In 1987, Larry moved back to his Southeastern roots and opened Jackson Marketing, expanding beyond the auto industry and into integrated marketing communications. Michelin North America became the company’s first Greenville office client, and remains a partner today. A decade later, in 1997, Michelin approached Jackson about joining forces to sell tires and to support its motorsports teams, effectively establishing the company’s Motorsports and Events division.

Today, Jackson is South Carolina’s second-largest integrated marketing communications and events agency, with more than 100 associates and offices in Greenville, South Carolina and San Diego, California. The agency offers in-house services that include marketing consulting and strategy, branding, media placement and management, digital marketing, website development and maintenance, video production, content and public relations, social media management, event and tour management, and dealer marketing.

In 2015, Jackson was named Carolinas Agency of the Year by Business Marketing Association (BMA). That same year and again in 2016, Chief Marketer recognized Jackson as a “B2B Top Shop”. Also this year, Jackson brought home Best of Show honors from the Outdoor Advertising Association of America’s 2016 OBIE Awards, receiving the award for Best Billboard Campaign, along with a Gold OBIE, for its “2015 Season Kickoff” campaign for the Big League Baseball World Series, a baseball tournament held each year in Easley, S.C., for 16- to 18-year-olds.

Jackson partners with a host of blue-chip brands including BMW, Michelin, BFGoodrich® Tires, BNSF Railway, Great Dane Trailers, JCB Construction Equipment, Sage Automotive Interiors, Magpul Firearms, American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
