A Conversation with Monroe Free, President, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County
Giving Back. Diversity. Entrepreneurship
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County believes that everyone who needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any other distinction.
Through construction of affordable homes, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County works to eliminate poverty housing and the social and economic blight it fosters. Homeownership eliminates the need for families to move from rental to rental, seeking lower housing costs and triggering educational instability for children. The stability provided by homeownership is recognized as the leading factor in children’s academic success. As families pay their mortgage, they develop equity in their home which changes their financial trajectory and helps break the generational cycle of poverty.
