Riley Institute names Steve Evered as Senior Associate
February 19, 2016GREENVILLE, SC – Steve Evered, former Vice President of Government Affairs for Michelin North America who has nearly 40 years of government relations experience, has joined the Riley Institute at Furman University as a Senior Associate.
Evered joined Michelin in 2003 and, for the last 12 years, coordinated the company’s government relations activities for Canada, Mexico and the United States.
“Steve Evered joins the Riley Institute as Senior Associate for Community Affairs and Leadership,” said Don Gordon, executive director of the Riley Institute. “He brings a wealth of experience, talent and knowledge to the Institute as we work to create conditions for all South Carolinians to be part of the social and economic mainstream of our state.”
While at Michelin, Evered managed all government relations activities related to Michelin investment decisions impacting its industrial footprint. He also led a company initiative to include tire fuel efficiency standards in transportation legislation, which was recently enacted into law.
Evered worked with Michelin’s global government affairs network on a wide range of trade, energy and environmental issues. He assisted the Port of Charleston in its efforts to ensure federal funding to deepen the Charleston harbor in order to accommodate Post Panamax vessels.
Evered served on the boards of the Rubber Manufacturers Association and the Organization for International Investment. He chaired the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce Good Government Committee and the South Carolina Tire Manufacturers Council.
Evered began his career working on Capitol Hill and successfully managed a Congressional re-election campaign. In Washington, he worked for numerous clients at a small consulting firm and managed defense, energy and international trade issues for two aerospace and defense companies, United Technologies Corporation and Honeywell.
Evered holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon and a Masters of Business Administration for Business, Government and Not-for-Profit Management from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University.
