Classes for K4-12 Include Matilda the Musical, Create Your Own Science Fiction Piece and More

 

Spartanburg Youth Theatre (SYT) will offer several classes and workshops this spring for students (K4-12), beginning the week ofFebruary 15.  Highlights include a musical theatre class focused on the Broadway hit Matilda the Musical, a six-week dance intensive covering several styles of musical theatre dance, and a create-your-own science fiction theatre class. Parents can register their children for classes online at SpartanburgYouthTheatre.com or call Spartanburg Youth Theatre at (864) 585-8278. Curtain Up: Acting Essentials

Grades: 1st-5th | Monday ­| 4-5:15 p.m. | 10 weeks | $120

Great for students with very limited or no previous acting experience. Students focus on physical, vocal, and imaginative skills, with strategies that include improv games and monologue work.

Curtain Up: Acting 2

Grades: 1st & 2nd | Tuesday | 3:30-4:45 p.m. | 10 weeks | $120

Prerequisite: Acting 1 or instructor approval

For students who have completed SYT’s first-level Acting 1 class, Acting 2 builds on those basic skills, focusing on scene-work and introducing students to a variety of styles and techniques.

Grades: 3rd-5th | Tuesday | 4-5:15 p.m. | 10 weeks | $120

Imagineporium: The World of Peanuts

Grades: K4 & K5 | Wednesday | 3:30-4:30 p.m. | 10 weeks | $100

We’ll bring to life beloved Peanuts characters from Snoopy to Woodstock using imaginative movement, games and drama activities. Students learn the basics of teamwork and how to perform confidently in front of others.

Twisted Theatre: Science Fiction Edition

Grades: 6th-9th | Wednesday | 4-5:15 p.m. | 10 weeks | $120

If your child won’t miss an episode of Doctor Who and knows Star Wars by heart, this is the class for him or her! Using devising techniques and collaborative strategies, students create their very own sci-fi theatre piece. Great for budding writers and performers!

Broadway Bound: Matilda the Musical

Grades: 5th-9th | Thursday | 4-5:30 p.m. | 10 weeks | $120

In this ensemble-based musical theatre class, students will develop vocal technique, a basic musical theatre dance vocabulary, stage presence and collaborative skills working toward a class showcase of songs from the hit Broadway musical Matilda.

Broadway Bound: Musical Theatre Dance

Grades: 9th-12th | Saturday | 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | $80

This class is a special six-week intensive that will end March 26. The early sign up discount does not apply.

For singer/actors looking to learn the hottest Broadway dance. Students get an overview of a variety of styles, including tap, jazz, basic ballroom, hip hop and more, and learn how dance helps create musical theatre characters.
