Eight local bands announced for BreastFest Greenville, a music festival at Quest Brewing Company, supporting breast cancer patients at GHS

GREENVILLE, SC — BreastFest Greenville, the flagship fundraising event for the Tyanna Foundation – Greenville Chapter, will feature eight Upstate bands at its inaugural event at Quest Brewing Company (55 Airview Drive) on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 3pm – 8pm.
Scheduled to perform on two stages are: Four 14, Darby Wilcox, WPOS, Kelly Jo and Buffaloe, Cheap Blonde Blues Band, The Eric Weiler Band, The Texas Exes, and Jef Chandler, Charles Hedgepath & Doug Jones.
Tickets are on sale now for $50 and will be $60 at the door. The cost includes admission, craft beer, soft drinks, food and live music. The family-friendly event also will have activities just for kids, such as face painting, crafts and games.
The event will benefit the Greenville Health System and will help to provide free breast screenings to women. According to James Kaltenbach, director of cancer services for the GHS Cancer Institute, “In the past few years, the GHS free screening program has screened 400 women each year. Just recently, five patients with breast cancer were identified in a 30-day timeframe. Screening is important for all. A patient needing help often qualifies for assistance to cover treatment, and catching cancer early often lowers the overall cost of treatment and gives the patient the best chance to be cured. Well over 90% of women can survive breast cancer caught in state 0 or 1 while the survival rate at state 4 lowers to 20%. Your gift to BreastFest will help cover the cost of screening and diagnosing women in our community.”
According to BreastFest Greenville Chair Cate Tyson, “BreastFest stands apart from other cancer-related fundraisers. The Tyanna Foundation is 100% volunteer-run, for example, so after expenses, all funds raised go directly to the chosen local charity.”
Tyson also said planners want the event to have a very local flavor. “It is important to us that this event have a strong local feel. We want this to be the breast cancer fundraising event of The Upstate which is why we booked Greenville-based musicians, are working with local catering companies and restaurants for the food, and of course, Quest will serve their own locally-brewed craft beer, “Plus the funds raised stay local, helping patients and their families right here in the Upstate,” said Tyson.
Medical professionals from GHS will be there to educate attendees about the importance of yearly mammograms and how to conduct a proper self-breast exam.
The Tyanna Foundation’s namesake, Tyanna O’Brien, had a passion for life and never took herself too seriously,” according to Tyson, “and her daughters wanted to remember and honor their mother in that regard. So we like to have fun with the fact that we’re talking about breasts. Our motto is “Save the Girls” and we like to thank people for “Being the Bra” and lending their support.”
