Connie Cleveland & Golden Retriever Micah Take First in Utility Division of Second AKC Obedience Classic

June 29, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – Connie Cleveland, owner and CEO of Dog Trainers Workshop, a full-service dog training and boarding facility based in Fountain Inn, SC has taken first place with her Golden Retriever Micah in the Utility Division at the second AKC Obedience Classic. The tournament, held in Orlando, Florida, consisted of three rounds of competition over two days; about 200 dogs competed in the four divisions. In late 2013, Micah took first in the Novice Division at the inaugural Obedience Classic. Later this year, he will be competing in the Masters Division, where Cleveland will also be coaching students from Dog Trainers Workshop, as well as coaching three Juniors for the National Junior Obedience Competition, held in conjunction with the Obedience Classic.

“It’s a privilege to be taking this obedience competition journey with Micah,” says Cleveland. “We have forged quite a partnership and I learn something new every day while working with him.”

Best known for her field and obedience champion golden and Labrador retrievers, including both the first field/obedience champion golden retriever and the only Labrador to have earned a field championship, an amateur field championship, and an obedience trial championship title, Connie offers her specialized weekend training seminars to competitive dog trainers around the country and overseas. Locally, Cleveland offers competition obedience classes to more than 70 students each week and she and her staff offer private lessons for competitors who live too far away to attend class.

At home in Fountain Inn, SC, Dog Trainers Workshop exists to improve the relationship between owners and their dogs, demonstrate how trained dogs can enrich lives, and help save dogs’ lives through training and behavior modification.
