November 24, 2014

Community partners bring entertainment and events to rink

GREENVILLE, SC –  United Community Bank Ice on Main kicks off its fourth season today as one of downtown Greenville’s favorite holiday traditions. The 2014-2015 season brings exciting new elements to the rink, including the “Skate Your Way to Broadway” sweepstakes and commemorative gloves, socks and T-shirts available for sale to benefit a local charity.

“The opening of United Community Bank Ice on Main represents the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Greenville, and we are proud to bring back our outdoor skating rink for its fourth season,” said Mayor Knox White. “Not only is the rink a fun family attraction, but it also brings thousands of visitors to our community each year. More than 50,500 skaters have enjoyed the rink over the past three years, and we hope even more families will come out this season.”

United Community Bank Ice on Main is located next to Greenville City Hall on the Village Green at Main@Broad, 206 S. Main St., and is open through Jan. 19, 2015. Visitors and local residents are invited to take a spin on the rink or simply grab a cup of hot chocolate from the concession stand and enjoy the holiday spirit.

“We are proud to be the presenting sponsor for United Community Bank Ice on Main again this year. Ice on Main is an iconic part of our community’s holiday tradition, and one of the many reasons Greenville is an amazing place to live and visit,” said Michelle Seaver, President of Greenville County for United Community Bank. “We are grateful for the chance to give back to the community by providing a fun and affordable outdoor activity for the entire family, while at the same time creating a positive economic impact for downtown businesses.”

United Community Bank is bringing several elements to the ice this year for the greater good of the community, including commemorative gloves and socks available for purchase with proceeds benefitting a local organization. The bank is also partnering with locally owned COAST Apparel to provide limited edition, long-sleeved T-shirts, which will be available at the company’s retail location at 3217 Augusta Road. Proceeds from all glove, sock and T-shirt sales will benefit Camp Courage, a local recreational program for children with cancer and blood disorders. United Community Bank is also partnering with local elementary schools to host five Spirit Nights to encourage families to skate together and support their schools. A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit the featured school. The bank will provide unique entertainment during each Spirit Night, including a special appearance by the Cat in the Hat, the opportunity to take selfies with Santa and a free holiday concert performance by the Carolina Youth Symphony.
