Production of the Second-Generation X6 Sports Activity Coupe Begins
August 4, 2014GREENVILLE, SC – Production of the second-generation BMW X6 officially began today at the company’s South Carolina plant. The first, new BMW X6 is a Sophisto Gray xDrive 35i. It features Cognac Black Nappa Leather interior and is bound for a BMW dealership in China.

The new BMW X6 sets new standards in powerful design, luxurious spaciousness, cutting-edge versatility and efficient driving pleasure. It comes armed with an even more potent design presence and outstanding performance:
- The extrovert design of the new BMW X6 blends the robustness and versatility of a BMW X model with the sporting elegance typical of the brand’s Coupes. The interior combines generous space with model-specific sports features and a luxurious ambience, while attractive design and equipment packages further highlight the exclusive style of the new BMW X6. The Design Pure Extravagance equipment package adds striking, high-quality accents to both the interior and the exterior. The M Sport package, meanwhile, includes specially selected features that enhance the vehicle’s dynamic character to immediately eye-catching effect. Also available from launch are model-specific features from BMW Individual.
- It features an exclusive roster of standard equipment which goes well beyond that of the previous model: bixenon headlights, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, automatic tailgate operation and the 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission with steering wheel shift paddles are all included, as are leather trim, two-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and the Driving Assistant safety package from BMW ConnectedDrive. Lending functionality an extra boost are the 40 : 20 : 40 split/folding rear seat backrests, which allow load compartment capacity to expand from 580 liters to as much as 1,525 liters (75 liters more than the previous model.)
Since 2008, about 265,000 X6’s have been produced for global customers. The X6 Sports Activity Coupe is produced exclusively at BMW Manufacturing Co. for distribution to more than 140 worldwide markets.
The South Carolina plant is in the midst of a $1 Billion investment to increase production volume by 50% to 450,000 units annually by 2016. In March, the company also announced that the all-new BMW X7 would be produced at the Spartanburg plant.
