PlaySafe to provide Athletic Trainers for The College All Star Bowl
January 22, 2014GREENVILLE, SC – January 22, 2014 – PlaySafe, a 501c(3) non-profit organization, which provides certified athletic trainers to the high schools in the upstate free of charge, will be providing athletic trainers to The College All Star Bowl in February.
Headquartered in Anderson, PlaySafe is a unique model, which has drawn significant interest from many states across the nation, as a non-profit entity raising funds within the community to secure and place athletic trainers in high schools on a full-time basis.
South Carolina, like many states, does not provide funding for sports medicine services to high schools. PlaySafe’s athletic trainers remain employees of PlaySafe and are assigned to a high school, where they provide sports medicine coverage, while educating the student population on injury prevention, proper hydration and nutrition. The presence of an athletic trainer can save the healthcare industry hundreds of thousands of dollars annually by serving as the first responder when an injury occurs and by deflecting the number of emergency room visits otherwise seen as the only resource. Certified athletic trainers are experts in sports related injury prevention, assessment and care.
The College All Star Bowl will air nationwide on the CBS Sports Network on February 14 for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Furman University’s Paladin Stadium. The game gives special focus to players entering the NFL Draft, creating an opportunity for football players nationwide, including South Carolina. The game also gives the assistant coaches an opportunity to be hired for coaching positions in the NFL as well as universities and other leagues.
The College All Star Bowl will feature the “Nationals” led by South Carolina College Football Hall of Famer and Clemson’s National Championship Coach Danny Ford along with his assistant coaches including former NFL and collegiate greats Brian Dawkins, Nick Eason and Patrick Sapp.
The “Americans” are led by South Carolina College Football Hall of Famer and legendary SC State Coach Willie Jeffries and his assistant coaches including former NFL and collegiate greats Jamon Meredith, Dwayne Harper, Charlie Brown and Marco Coleman, among others. Players accepting invites will be categorized in a player pool and then drafted by either the Americans or Nationals.
The College All Star Bowl will feature open practices for fans, autograph sessions, skills clinics and a scouting combine for athletes to test for NFL scouts. Tickets can be purchased at www.thecollegeallstarbowl.com.
