Southern Connector appears on Cinemax

January 17, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC – January 20, 2014 – The Southern Connector was featured in a key scene this week on the season premiere of the Emmy-award winning Cinemax show, Banshee.

The second season episode of the action-drama premiered last Friday to more than 700,000 viewers and aired nine times this week. Banshee is the highest-rated original series in Cinemax history. In the episode, Little Fish,  the Southern Connector serves as the backdrop for an armored car heist.

The 16-mile toll road that runs across the southern portion of Greenville County was shut down last April for almost three days for filming of the scene. The project came about after Cinemax contacted the S.C. Film Commission about filming the chase scene. The Film Commission then turned to the South Carolina Department of Transportation and the Southern Connector about filming. It was decided the Southern Connector was a good location because it is very scenic and fits the surroundings of the show.

About the Southern Connector

The 16-mile Southern Connector was opened in 2001, eight and a half months ahead of schedule and under budget. The road was built with private money through a unique public-private partnership. No tax money was used for construction of the road, but the state owns the highway, while the Association has the right to collect and retain tolls under a license from the State through 2051.
