Woodlands at Furman Challenge heads to Paris Mountain

GREENVILLE, SC – December 8, 2013 – A year of friendly competition and healthy living culminated with the Paris Mountain Road Race Saturday, December 7, 2013.
Participants in the Woodlands at Furman Challenge took on the difficult course that winds through the Furman University campus and Paris Mountain State Park.
The Woodlands at Furman Challenge began in 2011 as a way to promote physical fitness amongst Upstate residents age 65 and older. Points are awarded using a formula that takes in both race finish as well as the age of the competitor.
As the Challenge comes to a close, the overall men’s leader for the year is Guenter Full of Simpsonville, followed by George Luke of Greer with James Horne of Greenville in third. On the women’s side, Lola Amcher of Greer is the points leader, followed by Monika Wells and Flora Fulton.
Previous events in this year’s Woodlands at Furman Challenge included the Greenville News Downtown 5K in January, Green Valley in February, the TD Bank Reedy River Run in March, the Furman 5K in April, the Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Trail 5K in May, the Red White and Blue Shoes in July, the Michelin 5K in August, the BMW Classic in September, and the SpinxRunfest in October.
The Challenge is put on with the help of The Greenville Track Club, which is the state’s second-oldest running club. The club’s goal is to provide the running and fitness community with a schedule of top quality events in which area residents can reach fitness and life enrichment goals through participation or volunteering.
The Woodlands sponsors the Challenge because of its commitment to healthy senior living in the Upstate.
