Inaugural Upstate Holiday Lights Run to come day after Thanksgiving

November 8, 2012

EASLEY, SC – November 23, 2012 – The Upstate has a unique new road race this Thanksgiving weekend.

The Upstate Holiday Lights Run is a 3K that will send runners and walkers through the annual holiday lights show at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway and onto the famed half-mile track for a lap as well.

We wanted to create an event that was completely new and never done before in the Upstate, said John Boyanoski, a race director. We feel this is a fun twist on the average road race.

The race will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. Organizers want the entire family to take part so the registration fee is low: $20 until race day. It will be $25 on race day.  The first 500 participants to register will receive a fleece cap.

Families are encouraged to participate. There will be hot chocolate, holiday music, and other activities for all to enjoy. The famous ice rink also will be open so bring $5 to get some skating in as well. Donations of unwrapped toys are encouraged and will be given to Toys for Tots.

Traditionally, Friday was the annual kick-off for the Celebration of Lights at the Speedway, but this year the race will serve as the opening of this cherished Upstate tradition,

The event is a combined effort of Go-Green Events and Complete Public Relations. Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet is serving as the main sponsor.
