Local Photographers Celebrate Senior Photography Campaign
May 11, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – May 14, 2012 – Local photographers participating in The Battle for Senior Photography gathered together Tuesday evening, May 8, at Chocolate Moose to celebrate their collaboration on the movement to get High School Seniors and parents on board with more creative student portraits.
Betsy Tetsch, creator of the campaign and owner of CanvasOne.com, spoke to the photographers about how collaborating together as a group they can overcome the institutional visions that students and parents have about senior portraits. As of now most states are already using more creative photos of their seniors and those photographers are working well with school requirements to keep photos in line with school guidelines. This has not yet happened in South Carolina.
Ben Voss, student at Greenville Tech who is going to USC this fall, said I can’t imagine doing my senior photo any other way. That’s the picture I want my kids to see and remember when I tell them stories about my High School years. I don’t want them to think of me as just one of those kids in a tux. Madelene Tetsch, Wade Hampton senior worked with each photographer to produce a senior portrait said Each of the photographers captured my real personality and when my family or friends see it they immediately say ‘oh that is really you’. I think everyone senior should have this experience.
Tetsch says this campaign is just the first of many efforts to make creative expression available to our seniors who are getting ready to face the world. Greenville has many excellent local photographers who have the ability to show who these kids really are when they leave High School. To me it’s any easy decision.
Photographers in attendance were Tate Schabot and Karla Avlarez of Related Images, Chelsey Ashford of Chelsey Ashford Photography, Marian Loftis of Marian Ashley Photography, Spencer Stanton of Stanton Photography, and Don and Joy Parrott of Footprint Photo.
The rotating gallery will continue to be displayed through the month of May.
