5 Local Photographers Bring the Battle for Senior Photography to Greenville
May 8, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – May 8, 2012 – Five local photographers and five local businesses have come together for the month of May and are hitting the streets with the intent of educating students on the importance of showing who they really are by asking then to get creative with their last portrait in High School.
Betsy Tetsch, owner of CanvasOne and creator of this campaign, pulled together a team of five of Greenville’s best professional photographers to highlight the creative side of one High School Senior and help express how the student really wants to be remembered. The photographers chosen to participate are Karla and Tate Alvarez of Related Images, Marian Loftis of Marian Ashley Photography, Don Parrot of Footprint Photography, Chelsey Ashford of Chelsey Ashford Photography, and Spencer Stanton of Stanton Photography. This is not a contest but an introduction to a movement. It’s a battle for Senior Photography in Greenville, SC says Tetsch.
Traditionally students each have the same headshot done with black overlay drapes for girls and black tux’s for boys. The students show up for their appointments and wait in a very long line along with classmates to sit for 8 minutes for 6 quick headshots that will look just like the person that went ahead of them. A senior portrait should represent the student and who they really are says Tate Schabot and Karla Alvarez of Related Images. Senior photography needs a voice, rather than the draped photo, allow a professional to construct a piece of art that tells the Senior’s story says Tetsch.
Local businesses in Greenville heard about this campaign and jumped on board. One photo from each photographer will be displayed on a rotating gallery which will move from one local business to another for the month of May. Locations and dates are listed below:
