The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association created National Walk @ Lunch Day to encourage Americans to live healthier lives by taking walksregularly during their lunch breaks. Most Americans’ schedules are built around the workday, so lunchtime walks are designed to fit into – notcompete with – workers’ daily schedules. Employers across the country are asking employees to wear comfortable shoes to work and participate in a 30-minute lunchtime walk.
Simply getting 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week has significant health benefits, such as lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes.
