Bowden and Duncan Earn Professional Exemptions in the 2012 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation
April 11, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – April 10, 2012 – Easley resident and Furman University graduate Daniel Bowden, and Clemson University graduate and Mt. Pleasant resident Brian Duncan, beat out 23 other pros at Thornblade Club to win two professional exemptions in the 2012 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation golf tournament. But it didn’t come after 18 holes.
Bowden, Duncan and Anderson resident and USC-Upstate alum Mike Lawrence, Jr. all finished 18 holes of regulation play at -3 under par 68. A sudden death playoff was needed to decide the winners, with Bowden and Duncan earning the exemptions and Lawrence, Jr. being named first alternate. Ironically, Bowden and Lawrence, Jr. were high school teammates at Easley High School.
I’m happy, but it was weird playing with [Lawrence, Jr.], Bowden said. We are very good friends and were high school teammates at Easley. He lived right across the golf course from me growing up.
I’m relieved, said Duncan. I’ve been working hard. Mentally, I can see the results, but the scores aren’t there yet. It’s right around the corner.
This is the third year that tournament officials have held a competition for exemptions.
With so many talented and deserving pro golfers in the area, the qualifier has proved to be a great way to select who will earn the two exemptions, explained Tournament Director Darin MacDonald.
Twenty-five (25) pros competed for the two exemptions. Along with Bowden, Duncan and Lawrence, Jr., the 22 additional pros that participated in the competition included Dustin Adair, Robbie Biershenk, George Bryan IV, Brad Caldwell, Ben Duncan, Drew Ernst, Scott Feaster, Garland Ferrell, Davie Field, Josh Gallman, Alex Hamilton, Michael Maness, David May, Phillip Mollica, Garrett Osborn, Stephen Poole, Jordan Powell, Austin Reeves, Tyler Rody, Kevin Schreel, Daniel Stanley and Frank Wrenn,
