Celebrate Easter with Renaissance and Baroque Art
March 26, 2012GREENVILLE, SC – Join the Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery for your Easter celebration with the Easter Strolling Tour: The Sower and the Seed. Extending from March 4–April 8, this self-guided tour allows M&G’s guests the opportunity to view one of the finest Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque Old Master collections in the country. Through depictions of Biblical themes and legendary events, these European masterworks illustrate the inspiring spirit of Easter with the good news of renewal and hope.
As part of this special event, M&G is offering a truly rare opportunity to patrons and guests – a chance to see the world-famous Benjamin West Collection, housed in the Bob Jones University War Memorial Chapel. From 2–5 p.m. on April 5 and 6, come witness such renowned artwork as that of Benjamin West’s The Ascension, a part of the “Revealed Religion” series commissioned by King George III of England. Truly a unique occasion, this viewing opportunity will expose even some of M&G’s most ardent patrons to an often unseen and historically significant aspect of the museum’s collection.
Easter is also a time for bringing families together; and in this spirit, M&G at Bob Jones University offers our Easter Scavenger Hunt. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to participate in an Easter-themed scavenger hunt through the museum. Designed to captivate the imaginations of the youngest art connoisseurs, this self-guided activity takes approximately 35–40 minutes and will expose the entire family to the Old Masters and their works. And don’t forget, for those who persevere and finish their task, a free prize will be awarded at the Gift Shop!
The fifteenth annual Living Gallery presents an incredible and inspirational view into art, music, scripture, drama, and stagecraft by enlarging well-known masterpieces to life size and filling these works with live models! Purchase tickets now for performances offered April 5–7 at the Box Office (864-770-1372). And, as a special inclusion, your Living Gallery ticket grants you free admission to both M&G sites on performance days (April 5–7) and Easter Sunday. M&G at Bob Jones University has extended its public hours on performance days to accommodate and encourage guests to visit: open from 2–7 p.m. The Museum & Gallery at Heritage Green is open 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Easter is a time of wonder and joy—a time for remembering the past, celebrating the present, and looking forward with rekindled hope to the future. M&G hopes you’ll experience all of this and more as you celebrate Easter with the Old Master collection! It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
