Gilston Insurance Agency Adds Staff in Greenville

CHARLESTON, SC – January 23, 2012 – Julie H. Poncar, a longtime employee of The David M. Gilston Insurance Agency, will move from the company’s Charleston office to Greenville, S.C. to work with agents in the upstate region. The Gilston Agency is a Charleston-based company that supports insurance brokers and agents across South Carolina.
In her new role, Poncar will work with both agents and employers to develop the upstate market, as well as educate them on health reform issues.
Poncar brings 25 years of experience in the health insurance industry to her new role. While working for the Gilston Agency, Poncar previously assisted brokers and their group clients in Charleston to help them find the best employee benefits to meet their needs. Prior to working with the Gilston Agency, she held positions with BlueCross BlueShield of SC, United HealthCare and Carolina Care Plan.
A graduate of the College of Charleston, she holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and also achieved the Registered Health Underwriter designation from the American College. Poncar has been very active over the years in the Lowcountry Association of Health Underwriters (LAHU), as well as the South Carolina Association of Health Underwriters (SCAHU), and is a past president of LAHU and past treasurer of SCAHU. She has been married for 27 years and in her spare time she enjoys traveling and scuba diving with her husband.
