October 10, 2011Greenville Allstate Agency Collecting Unused Cell Phones as part of Verizon’s HopeLine Project
GREENVILLE, SC – October 10, 2011 – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in support of Verizon’s HopeLine(R) project, The Mark MacGrath Allstate Agency of Greenville will serve as a drop location for unused wireless phones, and related (installed) batteries and accessories. Phones can be in any condition and from any provider.
The Mark MacGrath Agency will also donate $1 to Safe Harbor, Inc., per each free no-obligation quote written through Oct. 31. Safe Harbor helps victims of domestic violence by providing safe emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and community outreach and education in Greenville, Pickens, Anderson and Oconee counties.
HopeLine supports the domestic violence community by providing wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations throughout the country that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.
In 2009 Hopeline collected more than 1 million phones, enabling Verizon Wireless to give nearly $1.6 million in cash grants and nearly 23,000 HopeLine phones with airtime and other features to about 600 domestic violence agencies and organizations nationwide.
All collected wireless phones will be donated to HopeLine and turned into support for domestic violence victims. Phones are refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way. Refurbished phones – complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless service – are provided to local domestic violence organizations or local government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients.
How To Donate Wireless Phones:
- Turn the phone’s power off
- Check to make sure that the phone’s batteries are installed if available
- Remove storage cards (microSD, etc.) and SIM cards; include any travel chargers or other accessories that came with the device if no longer needed with other phones you are keeping.
