Furman Bookstore under Barnes & Noble Management to Hold Grand Opening
September 21, 2011GREENVILLE, SC – Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. – Furman University will hold a grand opening ceremony for its new bookstore under Barnes & Noble management Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. The bookstore is located in the University Center next to the Furman lake. To recognize the opening of Barnes & Noble at Furman, president Rod Smolla will offer remarks followed by comments from Joel Kriner, Barnes & Noble regional manager. A ribbon-cutting will take place at the newly installed water wall which flanks an entrance to the store. Sir Paladin will also be in attendance. New to the shop are outdoor features like the water wall etched with Furman’s diamond F, and an entryway canopy that draws traffic from outside. Inside, the store boasts the addition of a two-story glass bump-out for the Barnes & Noble Café— a change that gives the space a brighter, more open look. The café serves Starbucks coffee beverages and a range of pastries and bagels. The café also stocks convenience items, snacks and heat-and-eat meals.
Another renovation is a generous reading/gathering spot featuring a granite-enclosed fireplace open on three sides, along with tableside and lounge chair seating.
With new management, the bookstore now offers textbook rentals in addition to traditional new and used price points. Expanded options for books and merchandise are also available.
The bookstore will offer promotions throughout the day, including discounts on Adidas products and additional price reductions on clearance items. During an early happy hour at the Barnes & Noble Café from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., coffee and tea can be purchased at a 50 percent discount.
